Abstract
We demonstrate a compact and narrow-linewidth semiconductor laser based on a micro-gear (also known as a DBR-MRR) filter integrated on a silicon nitride (SiN) platform using micro-transfer printing (μTP). The wavelength se-lective mirror used consists of a Bragg like corrugation inside a micro-ring reso-nator which we call a micro-gear. This filter eliminates the need for complex heater-based tuning required in Vernier based resonator filters. And is more com-pact compared to extended distributed Bragg reflectors. The fabricated device has a footprint of 4000 × 250 μm and achieves an in-waveguide optical power of 15 mW. Linewidth measurements show an intrinsic Lorentzian linewidth of 5.5 kHz.
